A delegation, spearheaded by Mrs. Massandje Toure-Litse, Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture of ECOWAS/ERCA, alongside Dr. Simeon Konan KOFFI, Executive Director of ARCC, and representatives from the National Competition Commission, conducted sessions aimed at enhancing understanding and collaboration in these crucial areas.
During their visit, they conducted information and sensitization sessions with national stakeholders, including government officials, business organizations, and consumer groups. The focus was on outlining ERCA's mandate, ongoing activities, and the legal frameworks related to competition and consumer protection.
Key discussions revolved around collaboration frameworks with Member States, particularly concerning market studies, data collection, and capacity-building initiatives. ERCA, in collaboration with national competition authorities, conducts market studies to understand sectors, customer perceptions, and regulatory environments.
ERCA's Competition Information System, both at national and regional levels, facilitates data collection and management for monitoring competition and addressing anti-competitive practices. Additionally, an Electronic Competition Information System streamlines complaint handling processes, accessible via ERCA's website.
Moreover, cooperation agreements between ECOWAS/ERCA and individual Member States are being prepared to streamline collaboration further. Additionally, to ensure coherence in competition policy implementation, regular consultations and a Cooperation Agreement between ERCA and the UEMOA Competition Directorate are in place.
This comprehensive approach highlights the commitment of ECOWAS/ERCA to promoting fair competition and protecting consumer interests across the region.
